Brief History of Hanano University
HUST University owes its origin to several developments in higher education within the country and the region. HUST University was established in Galmudug state, Somalia by a group of Somali community and Intellectuals to fill the existing gap in the higher education system in the country by providing good system of education and practicing ethical professionalism. The idea of an institution for higher learning in Galmudug goes back to 2014 when Somali intellectuals drew up a plan for the establishment of Hanano Medical Training College (HMTC). By 2019, this plan had grown into a national concept aimed at providing higher technical education for the state of Galmudug.
Hanano University provided educational opportunities in this capacity until 2014 when it began preparing students exclusively for degrees of the University
The initial target of the collage was the development of health human resources who will work at hospitals and clinics in Galmudug regions and districts. The aim was to prepare professional health workers who are visionary, possesses leadership skills and has the necessary competencies to meet the demands of the evolving health care system. The opening ceremony was attended by the regional president of Galmudug state of Somalia and other officers of the local authority, prominent figures from the community, the enrolled students, parents, doctors and nurses working at Hanano Hospital.
The first faculty opened in this collage was for Midwifery and Nursing. The Midwifery/Nursing faculty is offering a nursing-midwifery Bachelor of Science degree course which is for 4 years (including a foundation year). The first batch will graduate on December 2020.
The collage has two main training centres: The health science campus where the training rooms, offices are located; and Hanano hospital which is secondary care facility with 100 beds capacity where students do their medical practices. Both the hospital and the campus are the property of the HUST.
Hanano University of Science and Technology (HUST)
From 1st September 2019, the collage’s name was changed to Hanano University of Science and Technology (HUST). These changes were made after through discussion among intellectuals, scholars and community elders who recommended to expand the university in order to cover the needs of the community. The legitimate founders of the university was established.
