Welcome to Hanano University of Science and Technology

Hanano Medical Training Collage (HMTC) was opened on September 2017 by an NGO – SWISSO Kalmo, which was then led by Dr Abdi Abdulle Hersi. He had an initiative of opening the college to develop health workers, as a pool of resources to work at hospitals and clinics in Galmudug regions and districts. The target population was individuals who are passionate, visionary, possesses leadership skills and have the necessary competencies to meet the entry level requirements for medical courses.

The pool of trained health workers was envisioned to help meet the demands of the evolving health care system in Gamudug.

The opening ceremony of the HMTC college was attended by the regional president of Galmudug state of Somalia, and other officers of the local authority, prominent figures from the community, the enrolled students, parents, doctors and nurses working at Hanano Hospital.

The first faculty opened in HMTC was for Midwifery and Nursing.

The Midwifery/Nursing faculty is now offering a nursing-midwifery 4-year Bachelor of Science degree course from a foundation level.

The first batch graduated in December 2020.

The college also offers training for laboratory technicians, pharmacist, and public health professionals.

The collage has two main training centres:

  1. The health science campus where the training rooms, offices are located; and
  2. Hanano hospital, which is a secondary health care facility, with 100 beds capacity. This is where students do their medical practices.
  3. Both the hospital and the campus are the property of the university
