Class Description
This is a four year Degree course in Medical Laboratory Science programme at Hanano University of Science and Technology, combines theory-based study and hands-on learning to prepare students to find employment in a medical lab setting. The course covers a wide range of subjects including anatomy, physiology and clinical laboratory practices, so that students will have the knowledge and skills to pursue career opportunities in private diagnostic testing, public health, veterinary labs, and physician’s offices.

The BSc. Medical Laboratory Sciences is a professional course under the umbrella of the Somalia Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (SMLTTB). SMLTTB was established by a regulatory board for Medical Laboratory Sciences training and practice in Somalia. Hanano University of Science and Technology (HUST) BSc. Medical Laboratory Sciences curriculum was developed in consultation with the SMLTTB guidelines, specifying the minimum content of curricular for Bachelors programmes. The developed curriculum also took into consideration the comments and concerns of other stakeholders including current students and alumni as well as opinions from laboratory personnel from Hanano Hospital, and potential consumers of the programme. At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate strong theoretical and practical skills within this field.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, utilizing appropriate quality control and safety procedures.
- Act as ethical and responsible members of the health care team.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically and solve problems in a laboratory setting.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
